Book Review: Coldhearted Boss by R.S. Grey

 ColdheartedBossEbookAbout COLDHEARTED BOSS

I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew.

Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. As Shakira says, these hips don’t lie.

Still, I like to think I might have pulled the whole thing off save for one thing:

I know my boss.

Last month, we met at a bar, and after a fiery first encounter, it seems we’re destined to be sworn enemies.

Ethan Stone is ruthless and arrogant, a man I never would have crossed had I known how much he likes to toy with his prey.

He should just fire me and be done with it. Instead, he decides to make me his personal slave. Oh right, I think they’re calling it personal “assistant” these days.

It’s torture, all of it—his bad attitude, his ruggedly chiseled face, his desire to grind me into dust.

Every one of our friction-filled battles burns hotter than the last.

A girl can only hold out for so long. Soon, I’m bound to go up in flames.

My objective? Survive the heat long enough to send home a paycheck.

My real objective? Stop having X-rated fantasies about my coldhearted boss.

☑️ Enemies-to-Lovers

☑️ Work Romance

☑️ Slow Burn

Taylor x Ethan’s first meeting is sexy yet ended in a “you-won’t-believe-it-until-you-read-it” kind of way. It’s surprising & original. The tension between these two, yep it’s there from the first time they have locked eyes. A burning tension that will leave you high and dry, at first. Shh good things come to those who patiently wait.

So I read & wait.

All’s Fair in Blog and War was an enjoyable 107-paged light and sweet read.

Before I proceed in divulging my thoughts about All’s Fair in Blog and War, I would just like to share with you on how I was able to acquire a copy of it. It came to me as a sweet surprise, actually. Yesterday I received a direct message on Twitter from Ana Tejano (Author of Fall like Rain, which I currently reviewed and featured here on my blog) saying that I won from her giveaway. Apparently my book review for Fall like Rain was the 50th review posted on Goodreads and she has this on-going secret giveaway in which to reward the ones who posted the 49th and 50th review. What were the chances of me getting this lucky? Probably this one time! She asked me to pick any book from #romanceclass as a prize and I got way too flustered. There are a lot of books that I’ve been eyeing from #romanceclass (others are already sitting on my Kindle waiting to be read) and so I asked Ana if she has any suggestion. Then she asked what I’m up for reading and in which I told her that I feel like reading a book under the friends to lovers or love and hate relationship trope.

That’s when this violet-covered book popped into my mind! I told Ana that I’ve chosen All’s Fair in Blog and War by Chrissie Peria (since I’ve been wanting to read it) and she proceeded to gift it to me on Kindle. So before yesterday, I wouldn’t have thought of being able to breeze through this book today. Yes, I breezed through it!

Thank you again, Ana for being my Kindle fairy!

All’s Fair in Blog and War follows the story of travel blogger, Five Cuevas, who got invited (along with few selected bloggers) by the Macau Tourism Board for a familiarization trip to the said place. The trip aims to introduce the bloggers and have them enjoy Macau’s different offerings in terms of culture, cuisine, entertainment and attractions. It’s going to be an all-paid expense trip – from the accommodations, airfare, meal and so on. They are going to enjoy the place without spending a dime. Lucky them! Well, except for the pasalubongs. In turn they have to feature their experiences in Macau on their respective blogs which is basically still a win on their side considering the traffic that they could get out of it.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: How This Drama Bulldozed Its Way To My Heart

Remember my recent Korean drama related post in which I have mentioned that I’m doing a marathon for Strong Woman Do Bong Soon? Well, I’m back and fresh from finishing the said show. Aside from I was itching to know what happened next after I paused on Episode 9, the main reason why I was keen on finishing it was because of my mother. She’s been bugging me to continue it because as she said, “It’s so good, especially Episodes 15 and 16”. Also, she just won’t stop talking about it and watching Youtube videos. I even have to shush her to stop her from spoiling me. It’s weird, cute and I’ve created a monster. She’s actually new with Korean dramas and SWDBS is the second one (after WFKBJ) that she finished from its first episode up until the last one. Enough about her, though.

I’ll walk you now through the things that made this show so dear to my heart. If you still don’t have any idea as to what this drama is about, here’s the synopsis as posted on its Wikipedia page and read it first before proceeding:

Synopsis

“Do Bong-soon (Park Bo-young) was born with superhuman strength. Her strength is hereditary and passed along only to the women in her family. Her dream is to create a video game with herself as the main character. She desperately wants to become a willowy and elegant woman, which is the ideal type of her crush, In Gook-du (Ji Soo), a police officer. Thanks to her strength, she gets the job of a bodyguard, to a rich heir Ahn Min-hyuk (Park Hyung-sik), the CEO of a gaming company, Ainsoft. Contrary to Gook-du, Min-hyuk is an odd man who is playful, a little spoiled, and has no regard for rules, and dislikes policemen. He has recently received anonymous threats, blackmails, and has even been stalked at an occasion.

One day, a series of kidnapping cases break in Dobong-dong, the district Bong-soon lives in, and she is determined to catch the culprit after her friend was targeted. Under the help and training from Min-hyuk, she manages to control her strength to use it for good causes.”

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon has a solid plot with a balanced mix of fantasy, suspense, action and romantic comedy. I do think that they did well in dealing with the kidnapping arc of the plot. With the mind games, creepy-looking suspect, hair-raising sound effects and clever camera works, they were able to capture it with a very disturbing and eerie vibe. I don’t fair well when it comes to shows with suspense but the romcom in it made it bearable for me. I enjoyed Bong Soon and Min Hyuk’s characters so much. I’ll talk more about them later.

About THE FOXE & THE HOUND

TheFoxe&TheHoundEbookCover

When your life is a hot mess at twenty, it’s cute. At twenty-seven…well, not so much.

It’s just that my lofty dreams—making it as a real estate agent, paying rent on time, showering daily—have stayed just that: dreams. Oh, and love? I’ve decided love might be a little ambitious for me at the moment. Instead, I’ve settled for the two guys who will never leave me: Ben & Jerry.

That is, until Dr. Adam Foxe takes up residence as the town’s new vet.

With his strong jaw, easy confidence, and form-fitting scrubs, it’s not long before every housewife in Hamilton is dragging neglected tomcats in for weekly checkups.

Like everyone else, I’m intrigued. Even after I spoil my chance at a good first impression, he still offers me a proposition I can’t refuse: play his girlfriend at a family function and he’ll hire me as his real estate agent. Welcome to love in the 21st century.

It’s too bad I underestimated Adam’s irresistible charm and the undeniable attraction that burns between us. The day he pins me to the wall and silences me with a kiss, the line between reality and ruse begins to blur. Every teasing touch brings me to my knees. Every kiss promises more.

It looks like my hot mess of a life is about to get a little hotter.
