Book Review: Coldhearted Boss by R.S. Grey

 ColdheartedBossEbookAbout COLDHEARTED BOSS

I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew.

Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. As Shakira says, these hips don’t lie.

Still, I like to think I might have pulled the whole thing off save for one thing:

I know my boss.

Last month, we met at a bar, and after a fiery first encounter, it seems we’re destined to be sworn enemies.

Ethan Stone is ruthless and arrogant, a man I never would have crossed had I known how much he likes to toy with his prey.

He should just fire me and be done with it. Instead, he decides to make me his personal slave. Oh right, I think they’re calling it personal “assistant” these days.

It’s torture, all of it—his bad attitude, his ruggedly chiseled face, his desire to grind me into dust.

Every one of our friction-filled battles burns hotter than the last.

A girl can only hold out for so long. Soon, I’m bound to go up in flames.

My objective? Survive the heat long enough to send home a paycheck.

My real objective? Stop having X-rated fantasies about my coldhearted boss.

☑️ Enemies-to-Lovers

☑️ Work Romance

☑️ Slow Burn

Taylor x Ethan’s first meeting is sexy yet ended in a “you-won’t-believe-it-until-you-read-it” kind of way. It’s surprising & original. The tension between these two, yep it’s there from the first time they have locked eyes. A burning tension that will leave you high and dry, at first. Shh good things come to those who patiently wait.

So I read & wait.

The first few chapters of Coldhearted Boss instantly reminded me of the Disney movie, Mulan. You know, how Mulan’s love for her family fuels her to do things and get into certain kinds of situations because of it. Taylor, our heroine, is truly that girl. I love her so much. I love how she’s heck of tough woman yet still has a heart. I love how giving she is towards her loved ones. I love how she thinks about them first before her personal gains.

Ethan, on the other hand is well…The Coldhearted Boss. How she ended up as his employee, you better look forward with what exactly happened. He knows he’s got the “upperhand” in this situation and he really plays his cards really well. He riles her up with his words, smoking looks, attitude and all of him.

With that, angsty & witty banters are thrown around by these two. I’m highly entertained by their thoughts & comebacks for each other. It keeps the tension between them burning and burning, and poof explosion.

Laughs and tension aside, honestly, most of the time that I was reading Taylor’s POV it felt like my heart was so heavy. I easily get choked up with her predicament. I hear her want, her cry to the universe, that even just for once in her life hopefully a thing or two could go her way. With her eagerness and perseverance, I knew then on that she could make it. I was rooting for her. I’m so happy with the ending. I was so happy for her.

Coldhearted Boss is a perfect concoction of the above mentioned tropes and my heart is overflowing with happiness. It’s a well-done story through and through. Most importantly it has a heart to it. Read the book and I hope you’ll find the Taylor in you.
